The rewards of a happy and fulfilling marriage are well worth the effort
If you’re willing to put in the effort, a happy marriage can be one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences of your life. It’s worth it.
As much as my wife and I used to fight when we were first married, there was always something that held us together. I think it was our shared values and commitment to our marriage. We knew that we wanted to stay married, no matter what.
A strong marriage is built on commitment, love, trust, and mutual respect—not who is right and who is wrong. When couples take the time to listen to and understand each other, they create a foundation of communication that can weather any storm.
When it comes to building a strong marriage, the Bible reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 that “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
This Scripture is a beautiful reminder that the key to a strong marriage is unconditional love. When we truly love our spouse, we are patient with them, kind to them, and quick to forgive. We don’t keep a tally of who is right and who is wrong—we simply love each other unconditionally.
After all, no one is perfect, and every relationship will have its ups and downs. What matters is how you deal with the difficult times.
If you are able to work through your differences and come out stronger on the other side, then you know you have a truly special bond. So keep that in mind next time you find yourself in a disagreement with your spouse.
Try to see things from their perspective, and remember that a little give-and-take is essential for any healthy relationship.
No matter what challenges you and your spouse may be facing, remember that a happy marriage is worth the effort. It’s one of the most rewarding things you can experience in life.
